Description
This is a good initiative from Microsoft, but it can also be extraordinarily confusing to use. Here's the story. The Removal Tool will detect and delete various pests that are running on your system. Currently this list includes: MSBlast (Blaster), Mydoom, Nachi, Sasser, Netsky, Bagle, Sdbot, Locksky, Wukill, Zotob, Atak, Torvil, Zlob, WinNT/F4IRootkit (based on Sony's poorly-conceived copy protection system) and approximately 50 other viruses. However, it does not scan all your files like antivirus software - the Removal Tool only targets those viruses that are currently running on your system. If you have an infected file but the virus is not yet active (eg an infected email attachment that you haven't run) then this tool will not touch it. For this job, you will still need an antivirus program.

Version 1.26 was released in February 2007.
